TudorCon is bootstrapped, run by people who love this stuff, and it only happens because volunteers show up. This year we’ve grown into five simultaneous session tracks at Randolph-Macon plus everything happening at Agecroft Hall, and there is exactly one of me. So we need about ten more people to help us pull it off.

You do not need to know anything about Tudor history. You just need to be willing to point people toward the right room and be friendly about it. Plenty of our volunteers arrive knowing nothing about Henry VIII and leave with opinions about him, which is honestly the best outcome.

Where: Agecroft Hall and Randolph-Macon College, Richmond, VA

What you’d actually be doing

Room host. Each session room needs two people (one of those will be one of our core Board of Volunteers, so you will be paired with a TudorCon expert). You’ll welcome people in, hand the speaker a time card at the five-minute mark, help get each PowerPoint set up in the room (they’re preloaded on to a computer) run the microphone during Q&A, and make sure the room clears in time for the next talk. This is the biggest need we have.

Welcome and information table. Sit at the front table and be the person who knows things. Where’s the bathroom, where’s the next talk, where can I get lunch, is there parking. Great fit if you know Richmond and enjoy talking to strangers.

Registration and check-in. Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Check people in, hand out badges and swag bags, get everyone pointed in the right direction.

Streaming crew. We broadcast the whole conference as TudorCon From Home. Help monitor the stream, watch the chat, and flag questions from our online audience so they get answered in the room. Good one if you’re curious how live streaming actually works behind the scenes.

Setup and teardown. Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. Tables, chairs, signage, vendor space, hauling boxes. Unglamorous and completely essential.

Vendor and guild room. Keep an eye on the reception room where our vendors and guilds are set up, and give them a hand when someone needs a break.
